David Gandy - Mid-Victorian Home Renovation - Eden Clay
Eden Clay > Case Studies > David Gandy

Very much involved in the renovation of his mid-Victorian home, including the interior design and furnishing, David had a clear picture of the style he wanted to achieve. Following visits to our showroom, several on site consultations and a number of samples, what first began with David selecting a vintage radiator, developed in to us supplying and installing all of the wood flooring and tiles for his new home. The result of his choices is an effortlessly cosy, sophisticated home, with touches of luxury.

Our work

Ground floor, first and second floor

The subfloors were first prepared by over boarding with plywood to create the perfect surface for the installation of our Henham distressed Oak herringbone floor. Although the flooring flows through each room without breaks, it was installed on a room by room basis so that building work wasn’t interrupted. Adhered to the plywood using Bona adhesive, it was then protected to allow for the refurbishment to complete, after which we carried out a full commercial clean followed by a final coat of our Old English Hardwax oil. This Oak herringbone floor was a bespoke creation at the time, but has since become one of our best selling floors.

Master bathroom

An off white crackle glazed brick tile with matching dado was used for all of the walls, which made for a challenging installation, with window recesses, niches and numerous corners to contend with. Our grey Marble hexagon mosaic was chosen for the floor, which, along with the brick wall tiles, have given this bathroom a timeless, classic appearance. Its arguably the copper bath that takes centre stage here though, but this is only possible thanks to the beautiful tiled backdrop David introduced into the room.

Staircase

David was keen to renovate his staircase, so we constructed and installed bespoke Oak nosing and treads, including two curved pieces for the bottom steps, and finished these with our Old English Hardwax oil to match the flooring. Dressed with a classic grey carpet runner, this staircase is a beautiful introduction to David’s home.

Front garden

Victorian tiles were the obvious choice for this period property, and although that sounds like a simple option, there are a number of colours, sizes and styles to choose from. In keeping with the interior decor, David chose a traditional black and white checker board pattern for the front aspect, with the more decorative Blenheim pattern chosen for the footpath.

Courtyard

The relatively small courtyard at the back of the property required a product that was easy to maintain and would make it an inviting space. Our Umbra wood effect porcelain tile was selected which gave the effect of a decked area but without the associated maintenance.
